I hope to continue to open conversations between LGBTQ communities, the public and churches and move forward to save the countless lives of children. Specially family, community, and church acceptance and love are very important for all LGBTQ children. We can help these vulnerable children and youth and help them to live to the full capacity of their lives.

From Joanne:

After Skylar's death I tried to find why this tragedy happened to my family. Then I realized I was raised in a system which makes us believe right or left. Binary systems make us resist foreign concepts or third options. My Korean culture influenced me not to talk about LGBTQ issues and it is taboo to talk about it at all in Asian culture. I just ignored Skylar's identify as transgender and queer. My Christian upbringing also didn't allow me to open my heart to accept Skylar and Avi as my sons.

So I lost the chance to love and support him. Avi told us and the reporter he knew he was transgender at age 3 but he didn't tell us. Maybe he was afraid of my reaction from Asian culture and Christian Faith.
God loves us without limit. He created human beings beautifully. Jesus loved children so much. What I understand now is transgender children didn't make choices but are born with it as well as LGBQ children.

Joanne recently had the opportunity to do a live interview with WORT (88.9 FM) 8 O'Clock Buzz to talk about her experiences and the upcoming (Trans)forming Faith event. To hear what she had to say, click on the play button below.

The event will consist of panel discussions, caucus break out groups for parents, youth and faith community, and workshops on topics important to transgender youth and the faith community.

This is a conference put on by Joanne Lee in honor of Skylar Lee.
